GIVING UP IS A RESULT OF NEGITIVE THOUGHT PROCESSES

A Great challenge in 2008

January 02 The start of a healthier "US" Today is the start of a healthier livestyle. Our names are Kevin and Patti we have been married for 24 years. We are not extremly overweight but we do have issues with weight management. We each have very busy work schedules and when we get home exersise is usually the last thing to think about. This contest is going to help us to commit to making the time to be healthy. We have to make the time to cook in a way to benefit our new lifestyle. Sometimes we enjoy going out to dinner and those choices are going to be even more important for us. Biggest loser is an inspiration because if everyday people with more weight to lose than ourselves can accomplish change, then why can't we do the same. Later this year we will be renewing our vows and we would like to be in better shape than when we were the day we first married. Our weight may have been lower 25 years ago but our bad habits for food choices is what has made us in the shape we are today. Change is going to be a good thing. butt

What a day

What a day today.  Wednesday's tend to be a slow down from monday and tuesday working chairside.  Allergies keep me feeling below par, but I will work through it.
I had a lunchtime meeting for our company picnic, when we were all done I needed an envelope.  Upon reaching for the envelope I hit my forhead pretty hard.  It really sucked.
On my way home I kept arguing with myself about running.  I did not run yesterday due to the heat outside but today I really wanted to.  My allergies make me feel so gloomy but I won out and ran for one mile then walked half mile to finish out the last half mile.  I guess I compromised a bit  and at least I did something.

Todays fuel

Banana

Harvest salad (apples, dried cranberries, cashews and swiss cheese on lettuce)

homemade salsa with lite chips and mozzerrella cheese.

I think I really need to get more of a balance with my eating. I will get working on that.

Sunday and Monday

Sunday 8/31
The first day of my test of my commitment.  I got up and decided I would go for that run.  I went Two Miles and my legs just said enough.  My allergies play a big part in what I am able to do, the claritin D really dries me out and with it being hot outside.  Yeah I went at about 11:00, it did not seem hot when I started.  I walke and ran the third mile then walked a half to finish with a final half mile run.  Don't really know the caloric burn cuz I did not wear my HR monitor.
I must say I felt great afterwards so I cleaned my kitchen mopped floors and dusted.

Fuel for the day

Breakfast:  one banana

Lunch:  lite english muffin with apple butter

Dinner:  1/4 pd 7% fat hamburger

Monday  9/1

Well it is here, the first day of summer, oh how I hate to see summer go.  I know we have another few weeks but it is the start of a new school year and all and in my brain that says fall.  I had the day off like most and knew I had to run and clean my bedroom.  I had planned on going through that dreaded closet and taking things to goodwill.
I got up and went running about 10am.  Today I ran for 1 mile and then walked and ran for the next 1/2 mile to finish up with 1/2 mile run.  I changed my allergy meds to the reg claritin and that seems to do much better.  They say that this weekend is the start of high levels of allergens (ragweed and many other weeds.)
It still feels good to get out there and accomplish what I have plannned to do.

Fuel for the day

Breakfast:  one bannana

Lunch: Grande chai tea from starbucks made with fat free milk
homemade fries ( I know this is not so healthy but hey it is labor day)

Dinner:  bean soup

Ice cream sundae at the ice cream shop....Oh yeah last big hurrah of summer.

New Beginning

Summer has gon e by so fast, we have had some fun times this year.  I am at the the point that I need to get back on this site on a regular basis.  I have maintained my weight since vacation but am still short of my goal.  Running has been a bit challenging because of my work schedule and the heat outside when I get home.  My allergies have started to annoy me but I am going to get through this.  I will be running 4-6 days a week.  I go horseback riding on Wed. and it is a real good workout.  My eating needs to be more controlled too.  Since I have become lazy at blogging that is when my weight stayed and did not budge.
Biggest Loser is coming back on so I am going to use this time as a new beginning.  I will be creating a new ticker and my weigh in days are Friday mornings.
I need accountablity along with my daily exersise.

My fuel for the day

Breakfast:  Banana
Lunch:  Mcdonalds sm hamburger
Dinner:  8 oz steak, broccoli, salad, 2 slices of brown bread, one glass of cabernet wine.

snack:  1/2 cup vanilla icecream with lite chocolate syrup

I did not get to run today but we did do yard work and made a run to the dump to get rid of a truck full of junk.
I plan on running tomorrow morning.

how time goes by

This past few weeks have been filled with many emotions.  Our son is getting ever so close to going into the army which is bringing excitement, nervousness, and a whole mess of emotions. Kevin and I ran another race and it is our best one yet.  My time was..... 29.34 finally under 30 and Kevin had a great time of 28:31, whow his second race and he is doing great.  Then we got some rather sad news.  Long time friends of ours had a son take away their life.  July 26th he drove to Indiana and hung himself in the woods.  It is a heavy pit in my stomach to hear of anyone taking their life but I think it is even harder when it is a young person of 28.  His dad said he was bipolar and was struggling over the course of the last year.
Today I went and paid my respects to the family, not exactly how you want to reunite with people you have not seen in awhile.
I am continuing to do horseback riding lessons and tomorrow I am going on a trail ride, hooray.
My weight has been maintaining which is great news for me.  I have been taking back control this week.  I need to be more focused to get to my original goal of 130 pds.  I know I will get there, just like everyone else.  Keep up all the good work, life is short so take a moment to let those that you hold dear to your heart that you love them.

...exercise • Thinking that you can't get in shape because you don't have two hours a day to exercise is just another excuse for doing nothing. Start small, because small can only get bigger. Starting big means burning out, blowing out, getting injured--another reason you might quit altogether.

Glad to hear you're back! I know with summer and all the stuff that goes along with it lots of people were just too busy to log on and blog about how things were going.  I had several times like these! lol  Sounds like you've been doing well and can't wait to "see" you on here soon!  Next time you're up in this area, you HAVE to check out L. Mawby Vineyards on the Leelanau Peninsula...my personal favorite!  Has a laid back atmosphere and is just overall - well, excellent!  lol  Anyway, take care!

Thanks for the terrific support!! That is a WONDERFUL idea on the 5k - to find out the route and do a run on my own.  I will look in to that this weekend!!  I'm actually getting pretty excited and can't wait to prove to myself that "I can actually DO this!"
